American Airlines Baggage Allowance

American Airlines passengers are welcome to carry the following:

Carry-on Baggage

Personal Item: 1 free (e.g., purse, briefcase, laptop bag)

Carry-On Bag: 1 free

Size Restrictions:

Maximum dimensions: 45 linear inches (22 x 14 x 9 in) / 115 cm (56 x 36 x 23 cm), including handles and wheels.

Must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front.

Personal items must fit under the seat.

Additional Items Allowed (Not Counted Toward Allowance):

Jackets, umbrellas, diaper bags, duty-free purchases.

Assistive devices (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, child restraint seats).

Checked Baggage Fees

Fees vary based on route and number of checked bags.

Overweight Baggage Fees

51 - 70 lbs (24 - 32 kg): $100 per bag (excludes Brazil; waived for First Class, Business Class, AAdvantage Executive Platinum, and oneworld Emerald passengers).

71 - 100 lbs (33 - 46 kg): $200 per bag (not accepted on Transatlantic flights, $450 on Transpacific)

Over 100 lbs (46 kg): Not accepted as checked baggage.

Oversized Baggage Fees (62 - 125 inches / 158 - 320 cm):

$200: U.S. domestic, the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, South America, and Transpacific routes.

$150: Brazil and Transatlantic routes

Sports Equipment

Items such as skis, golf bags, fishing gear, hockey, and lacrosse equipment are accepted within size and weight limits.

Counts as one checked bag; additional fees may apply.
