Carry-on baggage
• 1 personal item - fee-free (e.g., purse, briefcase, laptop bag)
• 1 carry-on bag - fee-free
Carry-on bag restrictions
• Maximum size: 22 x 14 x 9 in / 56 x 36 x 23 cm (including handles and wheels)
• Must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you
Personal item restrictions
• Maximum size: 16 x 11 x 8 in / 41 x 28 x 20 cm
• Must fit under the seat in front of you
Certain items do not count toward allowance: jackets, umbrellas, diaper bags,
duty-free purchases, and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches,
strollers, child restraint seats, etc.)
Checked Baggage / Hold Luggage
• Standard allowance: 2 checked bags (fees may apply for Economy fares)
• Maximum size per bag: 62 linear inches / 157 cm (length + width + height)
• Maximum weight per bag: 50 lb / 23 kg

• Destination
• Military status
• MileagePlus or Star Alliance status
• United Airlines co-branded credit card ownership
US Domestic Flights
• 1st bag: $30
• 2nd bag: $40
• 3rd and additional bags: $150 each
International Flights
• To/from US international flights: first bag often free; second bag $100
• International Basic Economy: 1st bag $60, 2nd bag $100
• Third bag and additional bags: starting at $150, depending on route

• Some routes allow two free checked bags as standard

Excess / Overweight / Oversize Baggage
Overweight Bags (US Domestic)
• 51-70 lb / 24-32 kg: $100-$200 per bag
• 71-100 lb / 33-46 kg: $400 per bag
• Over 100 lb / 46 kg: not accepted
Oversize Bags
• 63-115 linear in / 160-292 cm: $200 extra
• Larger than 115 in / 292 cm: not accepted

Sports Equipment
• Fees vary by type of equipment
• Skis, golf bags, fishing gear, hockey, and lacrosse equipment usually count as
