Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (IATA: BUD) is the main international gateway to Hungary’s capital, located approximately 16 km southeast of central Budapest. As the busiest airport in Hungary, it serves millions of passengers annually and connects the country to major destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.

Facilities

The airport operates primarily from Terminal 2, divided into 2A (Schengen flights) and 2B (non-Schengen flights), connected by the central SkyCourt area. Facilities include check-in counters, self-service kiosks, automated baggage drop, immigration and customs services, and modern security screening.

Passengers can enjoy a wide range of amenities, including airline lounges, duty-free shops, international and Hungarian retail brands, cafés, bars, and full-service restaurants. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal.

Additional services include ATMs, currency exchange counters, VAT refund desks, car rental offices, business facilities, children’s play areas, and special assistance services for passengers with reduced mobility.

Airlines

Airlines operating at BUD include Wizz Air (which has a major base at the airport), Ryanair, Lufthansa, KLM, Qatar Airways, Emirates, and LOT Polish Airlines, among others. Destinations cover major European hubs such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Rome, as well as long-haul routes to cities in the Middle East and selected intercontinental destinations including North America and Asia.

Transportation

For public transport, travelers can reach the city center via Bus 100E (Airport Express), which provides a direct connection to central Budapest, or Bus 200E linking the airport to the M3 metro line.

Taxis are readily available outside the terminal, with the official airport taxi partner operating a regulated fare system. Ride-hailing services and private transfers are also available. Car rental companies operate onsite, and parking facilities include short-term, long-term, and premium parking options within walking distance of the terminal.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport continues to expand its route network and upgrade passenger facilities, supporting Hungary’s growing tourism and business travel sectors. It remains the country’s primary hub for international connectivity.
