Yangon International Airport

Yangon International Airport (RGN) is the primary international gateway to Myanmar, located in Mingaladon Township about 15 km north of central Yangon. As the country’s busiest and largest airport, it serves both domestic and international flights and connects Myanmar with major cities across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

Managed by Yangon Aerodrome Company Ltd., RGN plays a central role in the nation’s air transport network and supports both passenger and cargo operations.

Facilities

Yangon International Airport has modern facilities designed to handle a large volume of travelers efficiently. The airport’s main international operations are conducted through Terminal 1, a multi‑story facility that accommodates check‑in, immigration, security screening, baggage handling, lounges, retail shops, and food and beverage outlets. Domestic services operate from separate terminal areas, and free shuttle buses run between terminals for passenger convenience.

Additional amenities include currency exchange counters, ATMs, duty‑free shopping, business lounges, and passenger assistance services. Wi‑Fi is generally accessible throughout much of the terminal, and airport staff provide travel information and support services to help streamline the passenger experience.

Airlines

A number of domestic and international airlines operate at Yangon International Airport, providing regional and international connectivity. Key carriers include Myanmar National Airlines and Myanmar Airways International as major local operators, while international airlines such as Singapore Airlines also offer scheduled services. These carriers link Yangon with hubs such as Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and other important destinations across Asia, making Yangon a key node for travel to and from Myanmar.

Transportation

Travellers can reach downtown Yangon and surrounding areas using several ground transport options. Taxis and ride‑hailing services are available outside the arrival areas and provide direct transport to city hotels and attractions. The Yangon Bus Service (YBS) operates an airport shuttle bus route between the airport and Yangon Central Railway Station, stopping at key locations along the way.

Inter‑terminal shuttle services also connect the domestic and international terminal buildings for passengers with connecting flights. These transport options help ensure convenient access to and from the airport.

Yangon International Airport continues to evolve in response to growing travel demand, maintaining its role as Myanmar’s principal aviation hub. Investments in infrastructure and passenger services aim to improve efficiency and comfort for both domestic and international travelers.
